Even if you choose to file a case in conciliation or housing court, you may meet with one of our volunteer mediators on your court date. DRC sends volunteer mediators to the courthouse in the Second Judicial District – Ramsey County – to offer our mediation services to litigants before they see the judge or the referee. Since mediation is a voluntary process, both parties must be willing to mediate and both parties must have the authority to sign any agreement reached.
There is no additional cost for mediation services offered in court. If the parties reach an agreement, the agreement is written up and becomes a binding agreement when entered into the court record. In this way, the parties have the opportunity to address the conflict, come up with their own solution that is mutually beneficial to both parties, and can avoid having the court enter an unlawful detainer or a judgment against them.
